Fw 190 operations · 1941–1945
The Fw 190 gave the Luftwaffe a powerful, heavily armed radial fighter that shocked the RAF when it appeared over the Channel Front. It later became a workhorse fighter-bomber and ground-attack aircraft across the Eastern Front, before late-war long-nose Doras fought in the Defence of the Reich. For modellers, it is one of the best Luftwaffe subjects: broad wheel stance, heavy cowling, wing-root guns, mottled greys, yellow theatre bands, winter whitewash and late-war RLM 81/82/76 complexity.

Build this Fw 190 as…
Pick the variant and front first. A Channel Front A-3, an Eastern Front F-8, a Jabo aircraft, a Reich defence A-8/R2 and a late Dora all need different parts, markings and weathering.
Aircraft identity
Fw 190A, F, G and D variants are not interchangeable. Check cowling, wing armament, racks, canopy, tail and engine length before building.
Fw 190s carried tanks, bombs, rockets and gun packs, but not randomly. Match weapons fit to unit, front and date.
Paint scheme cards
Classic grey Fw 190A route with mottling, yellow theatre areas and restrained Channel wear.
Eastern aircraft can show temporary white, yellow IDs, mud, snow and heavy field wear.
F/G builds need bomb racks, dirty undersides, mud, exhaust and operational grime.
Dora builds need late-war patchiness, unit bands and photo-led colour choices.
Campaign cards
JG 2 and JG 26 Antons with grey mottling, yellow areas and RAF combat context.
JG 54 and SG units allow field schemes, winter whitewash, yellow IDs and heavy dirt.
Fw 190F/G routes need bomb racks, dirty undersides, mud and ground-attack loadouts.
JG 26, JG 301 and JV 44 routes need long-nose proportions, Reich bands and late RLM variation.
Build difficulty and related guides
Medium-high. The broad stance helps, but cowling, gear, weapons and variant detail need care.
Very high. Luftwaffe mottling, winter whitewash and late-war greens demand control.
High. Bomb racks, tanks, rockets and gun packs must match unit/date.
